Frances Ricketson

Mrs. Frances Whatley Ricketson, age 89, passed away Friday evening, October 18, 2013, at Summer’s Landing in Douglas. Mrs. Ricketson was born in Coffee County on June 21, 1924 to the late Gertrude Cliett Whatley and late Claude Whatley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Calvin T. Ricketson of Broxton, Ga. She was a 1941 graduate of Broxton High School and had lived at Summer’s Landing in Douglas for the last 2 ½ years coming from her home in Broxton. As long as she was able to attend, she was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Broxton and enjoyed her Sunday School Class and singing in the church choir. She was retired from SunTrust Bank in Douglas. Mrs. Ricketson is survived by three daughters, Jennie Carothers of Lake Wildwood, Ca.,; Gail Bland and son-in-law James E. Bland of Winston Salem, NC., Carol McConnell and son-in-law James McConnell of Cumming, Ga.,Six grandchildren, Barbra B. Stuter of Lincoln, Ca., Richard Bittaker of Colfax, Ca., James Bland, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC., Daniel Bland of Winston Salem, NC., Calvin Lott of Atlanta, Ga., Lynn Lott Stein of McLean, Va., eight Great Grandchildren, Raycee Stuter, Benjamin Bittaker, Matthew Bittaker, Katherine Bland, James Bland, III, William Bland, Olivia Bland, Dean Stein, and an Uncle, V. A. “Bud” Cliett. Funeral services were held Monday morning, October 21, 2013, at 11:00 A. M., at the First Baptist Church in Broxton with Rev. Freddy Gardner officiating, and an Eulogy was presented by her daughter, Carol R. McConnell. Burial followed at the Broxton City Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were the Grandchildren: Barbra B . Stuter, Richard Bittaker, James Bland, Jr., Daniel Bland, Calvin Lott, and Lynn Lott Stein. Honorary Pallbearers were: Deacons of the Broxton Baptist Church, Members of the Sunday School Class of Broxton Baptist Church, and Care Givers and residents from Summer’s Landing. Special Musical Selections, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”, and “Blest Be The Tie That Binds”, were rendered by the Broxton Baptist Church Choir, led by Sam Roberts, with Willifred Thompson, at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were presented by the Pianist, Willifred Thompson.
