Betty Brice Ricketson

Mrs. Betty Brice Temples Ricketson, age 73, of Douglas passed away Monday morning, November 11, 2013, at her residence, following a short illness. She was born October 11, 1940 to the late Ambrose E. Temples, Jr. and the late Jane Carol Tanner Temples. Mrs. Ricketson, a native of Douglas and Coffee County, was a prominent retired real estate salesperson. Betty Brice was an accomplished pianist and vocalist – singing or playing at many weddings and other events over the years including playing at The Cloister on St. Simons Island. Betty Brice participated in several theatre events while living on St. Simons Island. She was an avid reader and shared her love of books with her friends, children and grandchildren. Betty Brice was a member of the choir and ensemble at Wesley United Methodist Church on St. Simons Island. Among her many gifts was her quick wit, infectious laughter and ability to “light up a room!” Betty Brice will be missed by many people near & far. And…she loved cake. She was a member of the Covenant Christian Church. Survivors include: 1 Son: Charlie (Joan) Ricketson, Jr. of Broxton, Ga.; 2 Daughters: Janie Ricketson (Dr. Wayne) Hester of Douglas, Ga., and Lou Ricketson (Pat) McDowell of Aledo, Texas. Grandchildren: Wyatt Miller of Douglas, Ga., Greer McDowell of Aledo, Texas, Ali Brice Ricketson of Broxton, Ga., Jessica Burkhalter, and Janie Burkhalter, both of Athens, Ga., Josie Burkhalter, and Jaclyn Burkhalter, both of Broxton, Ga., Garrett Hester of Nashville, Ga., Dr. Brett Hester, Kelly Long, and Brooke Hester, all of Valdosta, Ga., and Ryan McDowell of Anchorage, Alaska. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Memorial Services were held Thursday morning, November 14, 2013, at 11:00 A. M., at the Broxton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Beverly King, Rev. Elick Bullington, and Rev. Gregory Pope officiating. Special Eulogies were given by Mrs. Margaret Bullington, and her children, Charlie Ricketson, Jr., Janie R. Hester, and Lou R. McDowell. The Inurnment followed in the Broxton City Cemetery, with the grandchildren releasing balloons in her honor. At the gravesite, a Special Eulogies were presented by a granddaughter, Jessica Burkhalter, and Mrs. Margaret Bullington, and a closing prayer was rendered by Rev. Steve Bullington. Charlie Ricketson, Jr., the son, acted as the Urn Bearer. Special Musical Selections, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. was presented by the Congregation, with Mrs. Norma Lucas, at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by the Pianist, Mrs. Norma Lucas. At the Gravesite, “You Are So Beautiful To Me”, was presented as a Congregational hymn, led by Charlie Ricketson, Jr., Janie R. Hester, and Lou R. McDowell. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
