Tommie Marion Gillis Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Tommie Marion "Tom Cat" Gillis, age 69, of Willacoochee passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, January 20, 2015, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was born February 23, 1945 to the late Leon Gillis and the late Bertice Bagley Gillis. Mr. Gillis, a native of Bacon County, had lived in Coffee County most of his life. He was a truck driver for East Coast Asphalt Company. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mattie Smith and Janie Ruth Gillis, 3 brothers, Robert Lee Gillis, Tillman Gillis, and Leonard Gillis. Mr. Gillis was a member of the Saving Grace Holiness Church. Survivors include: His Wife: Elizabeth Nipper Gillis of Willacoochee, Ga.; Step-Daughter: Hope (Darrell) McLeod of Savannah, Ga.; Step-Son: Rev. Buddy (Janna) Phillips of Waynesboro, Mississippi. 1 Brother: Paul (Jane) Gillis of Douglas, Ga.; Nephew: Jason (Sarah) Gillis of Douglas, Ga.; Nieces: Melva (Sammy) Harden of Plantersville, Mississippi, and Dianne Puckett of Atlanta, Ga.; 6 Grandchildren. Many Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Friday, January 23, 2015, at 11:00 A. M., at the Saving Grace Holiness Church, with Rev. Cliff Kirkland and Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. The Interment followed in the Chatterton Grove Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Cory Nipper, Anthony Nipper, Jason Gillis, Jerry Harper, Ray Moon, Clark Holton, and Brandon Brigmond. Honorary Pallbearers were: Fellow Workers of East Coast Asphalt Company, Donnie & Judy Brigmond, Robert & Wilma Futch, Vinson & Sandra Tanner, Donald & Madeline Rickerson, Willie Ashford, Jimmy & Trellis Moore, Rev. Hilton & Marie Martin, Sharon Wade, Clyde Purvis, Emory & Bonnie Burke. Special Musical Selections, " Hold Me Jesus", was presented by the Soloist, Russell McQuaig, and "Wish You Were Here", was presented by the Soloist, David Smith, with Don Harrell, at the Keyboard, Ronnie Harrell, at the Steel Guitar, Elbert Beasley, at the Base Guitar, and Brad Harrell, on the Drums. "Pre-Lude" and "Post-Lude" soft hymns were rendered by these same musicians. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
