Ms. Nancy Coline Taft Purvis, age 83 of Nicholls, passed away peacefully from this life into her eternal home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday afternoon, May 22, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. Ms. Purvis was born March 29, 1936 in Atkinson County to the late Joe Taft and the late Cindy Rosetta Smith Taft. She was 13 years old when her mother passed away and she had to assume the responsibilities of the home and help raise her siblings. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother to her children. Indeed she was the woman of Proverbs – a virtuous woman whose price was far above rubies. Other than her parents, Ms. Purvis was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Ray Purvis, a daughter-in-law, Kaylene Marie Gale Purvis, a grandson, Nicholas Alan Purvis, Step-Mother, Juanita Royals Taft, 3 brothers, James Edward Taft, Chester Royals and Little Johnny Taft, 1 sister, Little Rosa Lee Taft, a special sister-in-law, Maxine Purvis Hitchcock and special Aunts and Uncles, Wilburn and Doris Taft and Roan and Maebell Taft. Ms. Purvis was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include: 3 children: Donnie Ray Purvis of Homerville, GA, Karen Purvis of Douglas, GA, Michael Purvis of Nicholls, GA 3 Grandchildren: Justin Ray Purvis and wife Dana of Hahira, GA, Kelci Adona Nolan of Douglas, GA and Abram Sidney Nolan of Bridgetown, GA 4 Great Grandsons: Kadyn Sidney Nolan and Kamdyn Kohler Nolan both of Bridgetown, GA, Jacob Brown and Lacey Brown both of Hahira, GA 1 Brother: Fred Taft and wife Beth of Pearson, GA 5 Sisters: Frances Taft Carver of Hinesville, GA, Debra Ann Taft Stevens and husband Steve, Sara Taft Adams and husband Kenny of Douglas, GA, Alma Ray Royals Anderson of Homerville, GA, and Linda Royals Burkhalter of Brunswick, GA A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends The funeral service was held Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Atkinson County with Rev. Bobby Fussell and Rev. Ed Gilliard officiating. The interment followed in Purvis Cemetery near Bridgetown. Active Pallbearers were: Justin Ray Purvis, Abram Nolan, Allie Purvis, Dub Taft, Roger Taft and Casey Stevens. A Special Musical Selection, “Amazing Grace” was rendered a cappella by the Congregation. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were presented by CD Music. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
