Mrs. Mary Lois Courson, age 89, died peacefully on Thursday morning, June 29, 2017, at her home in Douglas, GA following an extended illness. Born August 15, 1927 in Tampa FL 1927 she met and married Roe Dean Courson in 1944. Together they had four children. After living in Douglas, GA for 30 years (and owning and operating numerous businesses in and around Coffee County) they moved to Panacea, FL where they started new businesses and made many more memories and friends. After owning and operating Panacea Plaza, Mary Lois returned to Douglas after 40 years to spend her last years with her husband in their home town. She was preceded in death by a son: Robert Dean Courson: her parents: E. H. and Annie Spivey: 4 Brothers: C. H. Spivey, Harvey Spivey, Dalton Spivey and Robert Spivey; 2 Sisters: Eva Alberry and Sarah Bell Gaskins. Mrs. Courson was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include, Her Husband of 72 Years: Roe Dean Courson of Douglas, GA 2 Sons: Wayne Courson and Nolan Courson both of Douglas, GA 1 Daughter: Pam Courson of Niceville, FL 8 Grandchildren: Dena Courson and Dax Courson both of Panacea, FL Ronnie Courson, Amber Thrift, Shyea Courson and Ursyla Brooker all of Douglas, GA Nolan Courson, II of Brunswick, GA and Samantha Copeland of Niceville, FL A number of Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and A Host of Friends The funeral service was held Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 3:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Courson, Jr. officiating. An Opening Prayer was given by Rev. Preston Joiner. Eulogies were given by Dax Courson and Jo Ann Courson. The interment followed in Bethel Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Dax Courson, Braxton Russ, Charles Courson, Dalton Courson, Bobby Joiner and Bruce Joiner. Special Musical Selections, “I Can Only Imagine” was presented by the Soloist and Pianist, Judy Foskey and “Amazing Grace” was presented by the Soloist, Glenda Courson and Judy Foskey, at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by the Pianist, Judy Foskey. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
