Mr. Lewis Gary Harper, age 66, passed away Thursday morning, February 26, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born October 30, 1948 to the late Lewis Jackson Harper and the late Janell Taylor Harper. Mr. Harper, a native of Coffee County, was a prominent farmer of the Upton Community. He was a former member of the local National Guard Unit. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Harper. Mr. Harper attended the West Green Church of God. Survivors include: His Wife: Dionne Carter Harper of Douglas, Ga.; Children: Denise (Marvin) McIver of Wray, Ga.; Candi H. (Tom) Pridgen of Pridgen, Ga., and Kristi Harper of Douglas, Ga.; 2 Sisters: Audrey Taylor of Gloucester Point, Virginia, and Sue (Ronnie) Crews of Nahunta, Ga.; 6 Grandchildren: Mitchell McIver, and McKayla McIver, both of Wray, Ga., Jolie Pridgen, and Jed Pridgen, both of Pridgen, Ga., and Garrett Bennett, and Kolbie Harper, both of Douglas, Ga.; 1 Great Grandchild: Brett McIver of Wray, Ga.; Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Special "Thanks" to his Caregivers, Ruby Bell and Rakeem Bell of the Hospice Care Options of Ocilla, Ga. Funeral Services were held Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 10:00 A. M., at the Rocky Pond Baptist Church, with Rev. Lonnie Spikes and Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. The Interment followed in the Rocky Pond Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Dayton Carter, Jason Crews, Ray Grantham, Alanie Carter, Kevin Taylor, and Doug Pridgen. Honorary Pallbearers were: W. L. Grantham, Danny Grantham, Dan Paulk, and Harry Smith. Special Musical Selections, "Beulah Land", and " Go Rest High On That Mountain", were presented by the Soloist, Derek Soles, with CD Music, and "Just As I Am", was presented by the Soloist and Pianist, Frances Smith, with Harry Smith, on Harmonica. At the graveside, "Amazing Grace" was presented by Frances Smith, with Harry Smith, on the Harmonica. "Pre-Lude" and "Post-Lude" soft hymns were rendered by the Pianist, Frances Smith. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
