Juanita Nettles Pitts

October 29, 1923 - August 15, 2016

Mrs. Juanita Nettles Pitts, age 92, of Douglas, passed away Monday afternoon, August 15, 2016 at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. Mrs. Pitts was born October 29, 1923 to the late Johnny Hamilton Nettles and the late Linnie Davis Nettles. Mrs. Pitts, a native of Coffee County, was the widow of the late Madison Thompson “Tom” Pitts of Newberry, S. C. She was also preceded in death by her son Jerry (Jeanie) Pitts, grandsons, Danny Miller and Durwin Pitts, and a Step-Son, Tommy Pitts, 4 Brothers, J. H. Nettles, Robert Nettles, Sam Nettles, and Marcell Nettles, 1 Sister, Tressie Adams. “Nita” is best remembered for her concession stand at tobacco warehouses during tobacco season. Everyone came to eat her delicious homemade hamburgers and slaw dogs. She loved hand stitching quilt tops, cross stitching and crossword puzzles. Collecting and flipping junk was a hobby before it became a fad. Mrs. Pitts was a member of the Central Baptist Church. Survivors include: 2 Children: Colie (Pat) Pitts of Douglas, GA., and Sherrill (Dan) Miller of Douglas, GA.; 9 Grandchildren: Sherri (Michael) Berry of Douglas, GA.; Jess Miller of Savannah, GA.; Chad (Maggie) Pitts of Roswell, GA.; Rebecca (Booker) Pruitt of Atlanta, GA.; Sandra Pitts of Savannah, GA.; Jodi (Tim) Moody of Savannah, GA.; Travis (Genevieve) Pitts of Raleigh, North Carolina; Tommie Ann (Matt) Coleman of Johnston, South Carolina and Daryl (Susan) Pitts of Saluda, South Carolina. 14 Great Grandchildren. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends and other Relatives. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, August 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Wes Brown and Rev. Richard Nettles officiating. The Interment followed in Central Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Kody Berry, Dake Berry, Travis Pitts, Chad Pitts, Joe Cason and Shane McDuffie. Honorary Pallbearers were: Archie Adams, Ronald Adams, Barbara Adams, Bobby Nettles, Larry Nettles, Billy Nettles, Beamon Nettles, Eileen Maxwell, Pat Strickland, Brenda Phillips and Joe Summer. Special Musical Selections, “Just One Rose Will Do” and “If We Ever Meet Again On This Side On Heaven” were presented by the Soloist and Pianist, Amy Capps and “Amazing Grace” was presented as a Congregational Hymn, with Amy Capps at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by Amy Capps at the Piano. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Baptist Church Senior Citizens Fund 748 Central Baptist Church Road, Douglas, Ga. 31533. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
