Mr. Freddie Davis, Sr., age 83, retired Chief of the Douglas Fire Department, passed away Saturday evening, April 2, 2016, at his home, following an extended illness. He was born September 6, 1932 to the late Roy Davis, Sr. and the late Vida Ray Davis. Mr. Davis, a native of Coffee County, had worked for the City of Douglas Fire Department for many years. The last 15 years of his employment with the City, he served the City as Chief of the Douglas Fire Department. He was a family man; he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his church family. He was also preceded in death by a Son, Anthony Davis, 4 Brothers, Billy Davis, Kenneth Davis, Rev. Roy Davis, Jr., and Stanley “Bozo” Davis, and 1 Sister, Janet Bounds. Mr. Davis was a member of the Bushnell Chapel Church. Survivors include: His Wife of 65 years: Betty Jean Malphus Davis of Douglas, Ga.; 3 Sons: Michael (Hazel) Davis of Sparks, Ga., John (Christine) Davis, and Freddie Davis, Jr. all of Douglas, Ga.; 1 Daughter: Brenda (Fred) Davis Spires of Douglas, Ga. 2 Sisters: Mary Fussell of Ambrose, Ga., and Judy (Vernon) Rickerson of Douglas, Ga.; 2 Brothers: Donnie (Jean Carol) Davis, and Wayne Davis, all of Douglas, Ga.; 18 Grandchildren and 42 Great Grandchildren. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 2:00 P. M., at the First Assembly of God, with Rev. Gerald Gardner and Rev. Cliff Kirkland officiating. The Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery, with Casey Wright reading the “Fireman’s Prayer”. Active Pallbearers were: Casey Wright, Bryson Lott, Larry Wilson, Scott Wiggins, Curtis Gasque, and Brantley Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers were the Deacons of Bushnell Chapel Church, Terry Fussell, Curtis Harper, Waymon Bailey, and James Vickers. Special Musical Selections, “Go Rest High On That Mountain”, was presented by Joyce Roberts, with Hazel Davis at the Piano, “Wish You Were Here”, was presented by Joyce Roberts and LaVerne Sellers, with Hazel Davis at the Piano, “Long, Long Journey”, was presented by the Mann Kirkland Singers, with Lisa Davis at the Piano. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
