Mr. Dobson “Dobbie” Bennett, age 83, of Douglas passed away Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Bennett was born August 30, 1933 to the late Wilson Conner Bennett and the late Effie Mae Herrin Bennett. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Daughter, Teresa Benton, 1 Son, Darryl Bennett, 3 Step-Sons, Billy Merritt, Gary Merritt and Randy Stone and 1 Grandson, Van Tanner Carter, Jr. Mr. Bennett was a native of Millwood, GA. He had been employed with the City of Douglas Water Department as a Dispatcher. In his spare time, he loved gardening, hunting, and he was an avid fisherman. Mr. Bennett was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. Survivors include: His wife of 42 years: Mrs. Carolyn Yarberry Bennett of Douglas, GA 3 Daughters: Kathy (Van) Carter and Marie (Mark) Holder both of Douglas, GA Brenda (Scott) Russell of Waycross, GA 1 Son: Dobson Glen Smith of Mershon, GA 1 Step-Daughter: Peggy Stone Lott of Douglas, GA 2 Step-Daughters-In-Law: Shirley Stone of West Green, GA and Tonnie Merritt Holder of Douglas, GA 1 Brother: Jackie Bennett of Douglas, GA 19 Grandchildren including 2 Special Granddaughters: Misty (Jacob) Milhollin and Amber Holder both of Douglas, GA 37 Great Grandchildren Special Sister-In-Law: Rachael Sutton of Douglas, GA Special Nieces: Melissa Bennett, Patty Smith, Jennifer Rice and Jessica Bennett all of Douglas, GA Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and a host of Friends The funeral service was held Friday morning, September 1, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at The Sanctuary on Waldroup Avenue with Rev. Bob Powell and Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers were: Barry Carter, Mark Holder, Michael Benton, Jerry Merritt, Gary D. Merritt and Jackie Bennett. Special Musical Selections, “Home” was presented by CD Music, “In The Garden”, was presented by the Soloist, David Smith with Steve Watkins on Keyboard, “Daddy’s Hands” was presented by the Soloist and Musician, Steve Watkins and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” was rendered by CD Music. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
