Friends, Neighbors, and Family were saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Dexter "Boy" Kirkland, age 73, of Douglas, early Thursday morning, April 9, 2015, at his residence following a short illness. He was born July 9, 1941 to the late Buddy Kirkland and the late Myrtice Harper Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland, a native and life long resident of Coffee County, was a Prominent Farmer of the Upton Community. He enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was an avid Sportsman, as he enjoyed hunting small game, such as Rabbits, Raccoons, and etc. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Gail Smith, 3 Sisters, Geraldine Lott, Shirley Kirkland, and Linda Kirkland, and 1 Brother, Bobby "Cotton" Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland was a member of the Salem Holiness Baptist Church. Survivors include: His Wife of 54 years: Susie O'Steen Kirkland of Douglas, Ga. 4 Children: Dexter D. (Sherry) Kirkland , Tyler D. Joiner , Christopher Sage Joiner , and Ashton Carlos Vite, all of Douglas, Ga.; 2 Brothers: Leon "Mann" (Janie Ruth) Kirkland , and David (Marlene) Kirkland , all of Douglas, Ga.; 3 Sisters: Betty "Sweeton" Wilkins , and Patsy (Larry) Spivey, all of Nicholls, Ga., and Bonnie Stone of Douglas, Ga.; 6 Grandchildren, and 4 Great Grandchildren. Special Friend: Fritz Merritt of Iowa. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Sunday, April 12, 2015, at 2:00 P. M., at the Trinity Non-Denominational Church, with Rev. Floyd Musgrove, Rev. Cliff Kirkland, and Rev. Russell McQuaig officiating. The Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Josh Kirkland, Gary Lott, Garrett McBride, Rob Stone, Mike Faulkner, and Shawn Spivey. Special Musical Selections, "Go Rest High On That Mountain", was presented by his brother and Soloist, David Kirkland, with CD Music, " I've Got So Much To Thank Him For", was rendered by the Trinity Non-Denominational Church Choir, with Judy Foskey, at the Piano, and "In My New Home", was presented a cappela by Rev. & Mrs. Russell McQuaig. "Pre-Lude" and "Post-Lude", soft hymns were rendered by Judy Foskey, at the Piano. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
