William "Billy" Cliett

Mr. William A. “Billy” Cliett, age 66, of Broxton, passed away Tuesday evening, January 29, 2013, at his residence, following an extended illness. Mr. Cliett, a native of Coffee County, was a retired educator. He retired after 34 years as a teacher, of which 30 plus years were with the Coffee County School System. He also taught school in both Laurens County and Ben Hill County. He was a member of the Coffee County Board of Education, where he had served as Chairman for 2 years. He was also a member of Gideons International, The Georgia Association of Educators, Georgia High School Association, and South Georgia Basketball Association. Mr. Cliett was a member of the Broxton United Methodist Church, where he had been the Adult Sunday School Teacher. Survivors include: His Wife: Lois Lassiter Cliett of Broxton, Ga.; 2 Sons: Jeff (April) Cliett of Douglas, Ga., and Lee Cliett of Ambrose, Ga.; 1 Daughter: Becky (Aaron) Shearl of Douglas, Ga.; His Father: V. A. “Bud” Cliett of Broxton, Ga.; Grandchildren: Andy Cliett, Aiden Cliett, Darcie Cliett, Eli Shearl, and Abby Shearl, all of Douglas, Ga. 1 Sister: Othell (Dewey) Scott of the Pridgen Community. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Friday, February 1, 2013, at 2:00 P. M., at the Broxton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Beverly King and Rev. Elick Bullington officiating. A Special Eulogy was presented by Jeff Cliett, Becky Shearl, and Lee Cliett. The Interment followed in the Pridgen Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Andy Johnson, Bobby Smith, Wendell Stone, Jimmy Scott, David Black, and Greg Carter. Honorary Pallbearers were the Adult Sunday School Class of the Broxton United Methodist Church, Sid O’Steen, Jimmy Roberts, Charles Mancil, Bonwell Royal, Wade Hughes, Members of the Georgia State Patrol, Staff and other members of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Members of the Coffee County Board of Education, and Fellow Educators, as well as the Congregation. Special Musical Selections, “Beulah Land”, was presented by the Soloist and Pianist, Brandon Musgrove, and “Amazing Grace”, was rendered as a Congregational Hymn, led by Brandon Musgrove, at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude”, soft hymns were presented by the Pianist, Brandon Musgrove.
