Richard Leon Wooten

Mr. Richard Leon Wooten, age 66, of Broxton, Georgia, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 26, 2025 at Tift Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Richard, a lifelong resident of Coffee County, was born October 1, 1958 in Douglas, Georgia to the late Knivelton Brinson Wooten and the late Lucille Burkhalter Stapleton Wooten. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was known among his friends and community for his ability to work on things, and was frequently called upon to help others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He earned an Associate’s Degree and made his career as a supervisor at Hazlehurst Mills. Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by 3 brothers; 4 sisters; and a granddaughter, Paige Leone Tanner. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Brenda Shrouder Wooten of Broxton, Georgia; 2 daughters: Melissa W. Smith and husband Carroll, Crystal Wooten and husband Johnny Taylor both of Broxton, Georgia; 1 son-in-law: James Williams of Broxton, Georgia; 4 grandchildren: Dylan, Taylor, Richard, Kyndal; 2 great-grandchildren: Maverick, Payton; 3 brothers: K.B. Wooten and wife Sarah of Locust Grove, Georgia, Jerry Wooten and wife Jane of Denton, Georgia, Quitman Wooten and wife Debbie of Broxton, Georgia; 6 sisters: Priscilla Harrison of Sparks, Georgia, Betty Harrell of Florida, Mamie Lamb of Sparks, Georgia, Mary Ann Coleman (Steve) of Florida, Mary Kight of Denton, Georgia and Winnie Hutto and husband Jimbo of Denton, Georgia; 1 sister-in-law: Mary Wooten of Lithia Springs, Georgia; special friends Eiji and Sandy Keith of Denton, Georgia. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Richard’s family will receive friends Wednesday evening, January 29, 2025 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home. Richard’s funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon, January 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Mock officiating and Charlie Kight delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Pridgen Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include: Ricky Barrett, Dylan McQuaig, Richard Williams, Allen Kight, Bo Smith and Kevin Wooten.
