Montine Meeks Hersey

Mrs. Montine Meeks Hersey, 91, of Bonaire, GA passed away Monday, September 14, 2020. A native of the West Green GA community, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Hymerick Meeks and the late Annie Elizabeth Lott Meeks and the wife of the late Esta Lee Hersey. She is preceded in death by one brother, Dan Charles Meeks, sister, Gwendolyn Meeks Manspile, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Whisnant Meeks. Survivors include her four children; Deborah Ann (Brent) DuBois of Bonaire, GA, Glenda Ruth (Mark) Medford of Marietta, GA, Edwin Lee (Sarah) Hersey of LaGrange, GA, Kathy Jean Hersey of Franklin, TN; six grandchildren, Lisa Renee (Chad) Williams of Bonaire, GA , Zachary Lee Medford of Marietta, GA, Gabriel Mark Medford of Macon, GA, Ava Grace (Trey) Bradley of Bethlehem, GA, Iris Lee Hersey of LaGrange, GA, Margaret Ruth Hersey of LaGrange, GA; and one great granddaughter, Harper Grace Bradley of Bethlehem, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Ernest Lott Meeks, brother-in-law, Marvin Kenneth Manspile, sister-in-law, Judy Swain Meeks and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Hersey was devoted to her family. She started her Robins AFB civil service career only after all her children entered elementary school and working hours could be arranged so that her children were at home with their Mother or Father. She was a devout Christian and activities at Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA were an integral part of family life. She taught her children to be independent and value education. She and her husband, upon retirement, moved from Warner Robins, GA back to Coffee County, GA to enjoy extended family, farming and gardening. Mrs. Hersey loved animals and caringly nursed many injured animals back to health. She was a great companion and caregiver and fiercely loyal to her loving husband. Seventeen retirement years were altered due to a stroke rendering her husband blind. She always found a way to provide love and care through the tough times. In late life she enjoyed activities with her daughters, especially beadwork and making jewelry. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Douglas, GA and also found comfort in visiting many Middle Georgia churches as her health permitted during her late years. The funeral service will be Friday afternoon, September 18, 2020 at 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Newell officiating. The interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Roxie Mae Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Friday afternoon, September 18, 2020 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home.
