Leroy Day

Mr. Leroy Day, age 78, of Wray passed away early Saturday morning, April 16, 2016, at the home of his daughter, Pam and Dwayne Gillis, following an extended illness. He was born January 18, 1938 to the late George H. Day and the late Annie Mae Jackson Day. Mr. Day, a native of Coffee County, had owned and operated Day’s Floor Covering for 40 years. He was a charter member of the Douglas Exchange Club as well as being a member of various civic clubs of the area. Mr. Day was a former member of the local National Guard Unit. He had obtained a Degree in Business from the Perry Business College of Macon, Ga. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters and his church family. Mr. Day also enjoyed growing a garden of fresh vegetables for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by 1 Son, Bruce Day, 3 Brothers, Edward Day, Adron Day, Aubrey Day, and 2 Sisters, Willene Graham and Jo Ann Renew. Mr. Day was a member of the West Ward Street Church of God. Survivors include His Wife of 55 years, Margaret Smith Day of Wray, GA; 1 Daughter, Pam (Dwayne) Gillis of Douglas, GA; 1 Son, Greg Day of Douglas, GA; 4 Grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Baker, Hamp (Emily) Gillis, Justin Day and Grant (Diana) Gillis; 4 Great Grandchildren, Ella Baker, Annaclaire Baker, Briggs Baker and Henry Gillis; 1 Brother, James (Mary Lou) Day of Douglas, GA; 2 Sisters, Betty Smith and Delores Wooten, both of Douglas, GA; Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Monday, April 18, 2016, at 2:00 P. M., at the West Ward Street Church of God, with Rev. Britt Peavy and Rev. W. A. Bingham officiating. A Special Eulogy was given by Dwayne Gillis. The Interment followed in the New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery in Ben Hill County with Rev. Jody Silvers conducting the Committal Services. Active Pallbearers were Hamp Gillis, Grant Gillis, Matt Baker, Justin Day, Mike Chesser, Stanford Day, Johnny Day and Fred Smith. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Unity Sunday School Class of West Ward Street Church of God. Special Musical Selections, “Worth Every Mile of the Trip," was presented by Trevor Smith, Kristi Joyner and April Gay, with Terry Giddens, at the Piano, “What A Meeting In The Air," “He Knows My Name / How Great Thou Art” were rendered by the Ronnie Day Family, with Selena Day, at the Piano. At the Graveside, “Amazing Grace” was presented by Randall Smith on the Harmonica and Guitar. Condolences may be left at www.ricketsonfuneralhome.com.
