Rev. Joseph L. Sellers

Rev. Joseph “J. L.” Lewis Sellers, age 88 of Broxton, GA, passed away late Wednesday night at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA following a short illness. Rev. Sellers was born November 5, 1929 to the late Joseph Lewis Sellers and the late Nora Salter Sellers. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leila Gordon Sellers, 3 Brothers, Ernest Sellers, Daniel Sellers and Bobby Sellers, 3 Sisters, Novella Spivey, Ethelene Walker and Nettie Ponder. Rev. Sellers, a native of Wilcox County, was a retired minister. He and his wife were caretakers of the Calvary Holiness Campground for 18 years. He pastored many churches throughout South Georgia. He was a member of New Corinth Holiness Church. Survivors include: 7 Children: Mary Elizabeth Soles and her husband Stanford of Hahira, GA Janie Annette Crowe and her husband Larry of Sumner, GA James Newton Sellers and his wife Sandra, Samuel Dewayne Sellers and his wife Kathy, Stephen Paul Sellers and his wife, Tammy all of Wray, GA Lewis Donnell Sellers and his wife Lisa of Lenox, GA and Connie Bowen of Cordele, GA 12 Grandchildren: Ferrell and Lyndi Soles of Hahira, GA; Brent and Amy Crowe of Sylvester, GA; Amanda and Cody Carter and Haley and Mitch Lewis all of Douglas, GA; Ryan and Kaitlyn Sellers, Lauren and Wesley Yawn, Kayla Sellers and Lilah Grace Sellers all of Wray, GA; Cody and Rebecca Sellers of Broxton,GA Andrew Bowen, Nathan Bowen, and Phillip Bowen, all of Pinehurst, GA 11 Great Grandchildren: Grant and Baker Soles both of Hahira, GA Bethany and Abigail Crowe both of Sylvester, GA Lana Kate, Laylee and Laikynn Sellers all of Broxton, GA Mia Claire Lewis of Douglas, GA Weston and McKinley Yawn and Addison Leila Sellers, all of Wray, GA 1 Sister: Lavada Spivey of Doerun, GA Special Nephew: David Werntz and his wife Mary of Douglas, GA Many Nieces and Nephews, Cousins and a host of friends The funeral service was held, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Holiness Campground Tabernacle with Rev. Jody Silvers and Rev. Vernon Hughes officiating. The interment followed in New Corinth Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Ferrell Soles, Brent Crowe, Ryan Sellers, Cody Sellers, Nathan Bowen and Jonathan Werntz. Honorary Pallbearers were: Carl Wooten, Dale Frazier, Denville Hall, Mike Reed, W. L. & Frankie Smith, Randall Lairsey, Lonnie Salter, J. H. & Thelma Hutcheson, area ministers & their wives. Special Musical Selections, “Old Ship Of Zion”, was presented by Taped Music of Lewis Donnell Sellers, “Stroll Over Heaven” and “Land Of Life”” were presented by Joe Padgett with Terry Giddens, at the Piano and “I Am A Winner Either Way”, was rendered by Ronnie Day Family, with Mrs. Ronnie Day at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by Terry Giddens, at the Piano. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
