Hazel Nell Griffin

Mrs. Hazel Nell Hutchinson Griffin, age 92, of Wray passed away Thursday morning, March 27, 2014, at her residence, following an extended illness. She was born March 19, 1922 to the late Lee Andrew Hutchinson and the late Robbie Kilpatrick Hutchinson. Mrs. Griffin, a native of Ben Hill County, graduated from the Ambrose High School after completing the 11th grade. Mrs. Griffin and her late husband, Melvin “Pete” Griffin were prominent farmers in Ben Hill, Irwin, and Coffee Counties. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Jerry Melvin Griffin and James Arthur Griffin, and a son-in-law, William Burns Sirmans. Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Wray Holiness Baptist Church and was a dedicated participant in its worship and fellowship ministries and served as church secretary. In addition, she participated in other community church activities and programs. She was also a Pink Lady at Coffee Regional Medical Center. She was known among church members, friends, and the community for her excellent cooking skills, entertaining and hospitality. Survivors include: 1 Daughter: Sandra G. Sirmans of Ray City, Ga.; Daughters-In-Law: Susan Griffin of Fitzgerald, Ga., and Evelyn Griffin of Wray, Ga.; 7 Grandchildren: Jerrilyn Griffin (Steven) Mitchell; Bryan (Anjette) Griffin; Jill Sirmans (John) Bateman; Leigh Sirmans (Jim) Adams; Susan Giddens (Rick) Barlow; Melissa Griffin; Amy Griffin Clark. 9 Great Grandchildren: Allison Mitchell, Wesley Mitchell, Kyle (Kayla) Griffin, Ryan Griffin, Katy Griffin, Ellen Adams, Lauren Barlow, Katie Barlow, & Anslee Clark. 4 Great Great Grandchildren. 3 Nieces: Jimmie Sue Dockery of Ambrose, Ga. , Sherry Stevens of Douglas, Ga., and Robbie Holloway of Branford, Florida. Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 3:00 P. M., at the Wray Holiness Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Willingham and Rev. Farrell Harper officiating. The Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery, in Ambrose. Active Pallbearers were: Steve Mitchell, Bryan Griffin, John Bateman, Jim Adams, Rick Barlow, Keith Phillips, Kyle Griffin, and Ryan Griffin. Honorary Pallbearers were: Doyle &Linda Wooten, Von McKinnon, Robert Vining, Ellen Phillips, Leroy & Elsie Taylor, Kerry Van Moore, Kim & Nancy Phillips, Dewey Hayes, Jr., Franklin Hayes, Billy Carver, Drusilla Hudson, Lamar & Wanda Harper, Jerome & Faye Paulk, Troy Paul, Don & Sherry Paulk, Johnnie Royal, Robert Sherill, Gene Holton, Clayton & Earlene Russ, T. J. & Brenda Carver, Michael & Gail Merritt, Eulaine Edwards, Tim Tanner., and Rob Smith. Special Musical Selections, “Prettiest Flowers”, was presented by the Soloist, Paul Hutcheson, with Janice Young, at the Piano, and “How Great Thou Art”, was presented by the Soloist, Jerry Daniels, with Janice Young, at the Piano, and “Amazing Grace”, and “We Shall Wear A Crown”,were rendered by the Congregation, led by Jerry Daniels, with Janice Young, at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were presented by the Pianist, Janice Young. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
