Glen Coleman Griffis

Rev. Glen Coleman Griffis, age 85, of Douglas, GA passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 2016, at Shady Acres Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Rev. Griffis was born March 1, 1931 to the late Elmon Griffis and the late Rilda Morgan Griffis. Rev. Griffis, a native of Coffee County, was a retired Holiness Baptist Minister. Rev. Coleman Griffis had ministered for many years throughout South Georgia, North Florida, North Carolina and Alabama. While in the ministry he pastured at the following churches, Franklin Holiness Baptist Church of Douglas, Ga., Bethany Holiness Baptist Church of Ambrose, Ga., Salem Holiness Baptist Church of Douglas, Ga., Pine City Holiness Baptist Church of Pitts, Ga., Westside Holiness Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida, Wesley Chapel Holiness Baptist Church of Pearson, Ga., Calvary Mission Holiness Baptist Church of Douglas, Ga., Red Holiness Baptist Church of McRae, Ga., Stanly Holiness Baptist Church of Stanly, North Carolina, Brooks Assembly of God Church of McKenzie, Alabama, and Flat Branch Assembly of God Church of God of Millry, Alabama. For over 20 years, Rev. Griffis also ministered through his local radio program “Camp Meeting Time”. Rev. Griffis was also preceded in death by his wife, Jettie Mae Vaughn Griffis and 4 brothers, Melvin Griffis, Ellie Griffis, Elton Griffis and Neil Griffis. Rev. Griffis was a member of the First Assembly of God of Douglas.Survivors include: 3 Sons: Lonnie Glen Griffis of Pearson, GA., Mark (Laura) Griffis of Bristol, GA., and Rev. Byron (Rachael) Griffis of Orange Park, FL; 3 Sisters: Mary Lou (James) Day of Douglas, GA., Carolyn (Osbon) Wood of Columbus, GA., and Evelyn (David) Anderson of Cottageville, SC; 2 Brothers: Aden (Faye) Griffis and Larry (Pattie) Griffis both of Douglas, GA; 7 Grandchildren: Michelle (Tubb) Tanner, Glen Griffis, Mandy Griffis, Matthew (Brittani) Griffis, Braden Griffis, Hannah Griffis and Sarah Griffis. Numerous Great Grandchildren Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Friday, August 5, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Assembly of God with Rev. Marshall Adcock, Rev. Glenn Vaughn and Rev. Joe Vaughn officiating. Interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens with Rev. Billy Wilson and Rev. Hilton Martin conducting the committal services. Active Pallbearers were: Darrell Hester, David Hester, Matthew Griffis, Braden Griffis, Shane Vaughn, Bruce Griffis, and Marty Griffis. Special Musical Selections, “Save A Place For Me” was presented by the Soloist and Pianist, Matt Griffis, “I’ll See You In A While” was presented by Faye Adams with Bonnie Musgrove at the Piano, “Just A Rose Will Do” was rendered by Rev. Joe Vaughn with Bonnie Musgrove at the Piano and “It’s Going To Be Wonderful” was presented by Vanese Musgrove with Bonnie Musgrove at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by the Pianist, Bonnie Musgrove. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
