Dayne Purvis

Mr. Dayne Gordon Purvis, age 63 of Douglas passed away suddenly Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following injuries received in an auto accident. He was born October 7, 1948 to the late Alton Purvis and the late Vernell Moody Purvis. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Gordon and Becky Boatright Purvis, and Otis and Lizzy Smith Moody, also a cousin, Vernon Purvis. After graduating from Coffee County High School, he obtained a degree in Business Administration from South Georgia College. He started working at Douglas Electric and Plumbing in 1968 with his sister, Maudine Malphus Wright and brother-in-law, Rudolph Malphus. He took partnership in the growing company in 1972 along with Joe Wright. His work ethics and leadership abilities helped make the company strong and successful. He was loved and respected by his work crew. His work ethic did not stop at Douglas Electric and Plumbing. When he was home he tended his cows, horses, hunting, farm, and fish pond. He had a love for the outdoors and animals, this he shared with many family members and friends. Dayne’s biggest love was for his family. He was a vital role model and father figure to many young people in our family and community. He was a devoted husband to Pat Purvis for 22 years. He was very proud of his three children, Michael, David, and Nichole. He took great pleasure in his role as”PaPa” to Erica, Robby, and little Braylin. His role as Brother, Uncle, and Cousin was pivotal to the unity of his family. He would do anything for his family. He was devoted to his parents in their final years. Dayne also had a great love for Christ and his church. He was a member of West Ward Street Church of God for numerous years. He found his home at Reedy Branch Baptist Church later. There was never a person he would not help or pray for. He was a Christian man, reading his bible and devotion every day. Even today on his kitchen table his devotional book was turned to the devotion for September 28, 2012, with a subject of “Christ Justifies Us”. Dayne was a man who touched everyone around him. We know that he is looking down on all of us and will be our angel. We will all cherish the precious memories that we have had with this amazing man for the rest of our lives here on Earth. Survivors include: His Wife: Pat Tidwell Purvis of Douglas, Ga., Children: Michael (Rhonda) Purvis ; David Gordon Purvis, both of Douglas, Ga., and Nichole (Phillip) Whitley of Naylor, Ga., Siblings: Maudine (Joe) Wright ; Eulene (Benny) Peterson ; Allen Purvis ; Annelle (Loran) Shrouder ; and Dale (Wendell) Batten, all of Douglas, Ga. Grandchildren: Erica Kobee of Valdosta, Ga. ; Robby Kobee of Douglas, Ga., and Braylin Grace Whitley of Naylor, Ga. Several Cousins, including Virgle (Sandra) Purvis of Fitzgerald, Ga. ; Joyce (Sammy) King of Rochelle, Ga.; and Anne Lanigan McLean of Douglas, Ga., Aunt: Velma Lanigan of Douglas, Ga., Uncle: Alford Moody of Waresboro, Ga., Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at 11:00 A. M., at the Reedy Branch Baptist Church, with Rev. Den Weniger, Rev. Leroy Spivey, and Rev. Britt Peavy officiating. The Opening Devotion was given by Laurie Roberts, an a Special Eulogy was given by Beckey Malphus. The Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Wayne Harper, Charlie Nipper, John Barber, Jim Barber, Wayne Barber, Kenny Paulk, Linon Tomblin, and Larry McQueen. Honorary Pallbearers were: Benny & Lynn Dockery, Mike & Linda Justice, Donnie & Kathy Courson, Charles & Linda Deen. Special Musical Selections, “How Great Thou Art”, was rendered by the Soloist, Jamey Shrouder, with Rev. Den Weniger, at the Keyboard, and Evelyn Weniger, at the Organ, “It Is Well”, and “Look For Me”, were presented by the Soloist, Jamey Shrouder, with Judy Foskey, at the Keyboard, Evelyn Weniger, at the Organ, and Danny Jones, at the Steel Guitar, “Go Rest High On That Mountain” was presented by the Soloist and Guitarist, Rev. Britt Peavy, with Danny Jones, at the Steel Guitar, and the organist, Evelyn Weniger. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by the Organist, Evelyn Weniger.
