Betty Ricketson Meeks

Betty Ricketson Meeks, 86, of Tucker, GA passed away on August 23rd, at Emory Hospice with her sons by her side and after having spoken her words of love and affirmation to each of her grandchildren and friends and family members who visited or communicated with her there. She was born on June 26th, 1934 to John Wesley Ricketson and Mae Ellis Ricketson in Douglas, Coffee County, Georgia. She was the youngest of 4 sisters. Betty completed two years of college at South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia, and later at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a secretary in her early years, but after her children were born, she devoted her life solely to being a loving wife and mother. Betty was a proud and loving grandmother to her grandchildren, a beloved family member to her extended family, as well as a wonderful friend to all who knew her; she had such tight bonds with those friends that she was closest to, that she considered them as a part of her family. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emmett Lynwood Meeks; siblings, Lucille Jones, Pauline Bohnert, and Eloise Strickland. Betty is survived by her children, Emory Lamar Meeks and his wife, Yvonne, of Lawrenceville, GA, and David Lorin Meeks and his wife, Kenda, of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Meeks; Matthew, Alyssa, and Kristen Meeks; brother-in-law, Irvine (Red) Bohnert; sisters-in-law, Sybil Benson and Jan Ringhaver; nephews and nieces, Alan Wayne Jones, John Jones, Larry Jones, and Patricia (Dolly) Cain, Beverly Bohnert, and Deborah Forbes, Christie Minor, Lance Harrell and John Harrell, Deborah Ringhaver, Sherri Geddes, Mark Ringhaver, and Ken Ringhaver, and all of their families including their spouses and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, August 28th at Ricketson Funeral Home in Douglas, GA. Due to the coronavirus, social distancing will be followed and masks are required for visitation. Ricketson Funeral Home will provide masks. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29th at the Central Baptist Church cemetery in Douglas, GA. The family requests that individuals with health risks attend the outdoor graveside services rather than the visitation.
