Loyd Vernon Courson

Mr. Loyd Vernon Courson, age 89, of Douglas passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on October 19, 1925, to the late Loyd Courson and the late Frances Bagley Courson. Mr. Courson, a native of the Bickley Community in Ware County, was a retired Seafood Salesperson, and a Seafood Store operator. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Lawanna "Wannie" Griffin Courson, a son, Jeffery Courson, a granddaughter, Beverly Gail Courson, 2 great grandchildren, Lisa Marie Stone and William Galen Skipper, and 4 sisters, Doris Bittaker, Mary Frances Joiner, Louise Love, and Lucille Williams. Mr. Courson was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for over 50 years. Survivors include: 1 Daughter: Kathy (Wendell) Rewis of Alma, Ga.; 4 Sons: Rodney (Glenda) Courson, Sr., Dalton (Annette) Courson, and William David Courson, Sr. all of Douglas, Ga., and Charles (Peggy) Courson of Tifton, Ga.; 1 Sister: Maurice Belcher of Douglas, Ga.; 1 Brother: Rodean (Lois) Courson of Douglas, Ga.; 17 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, and 10 Great Great Grandchildren. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Friday, March 27, 2015, at 2:00 P. M., at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Courson, Jr. and the Rev. Elisha Purvis, Jr. officiating. The interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Brad Courson, Billy Joe Courson, Andy Courson, Michael Courson, David Courson, Jr., Landry Courson, Trent Courson, and Buddy McCloud. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Special Musical Selections, "Daddy's Hands", was presented by Kathy Rewis, Glenda Courson, Sherry Skipper, Brooklyn Reeder, and Wendy Batten, with CD Music, "Thank You For Giving To The Lord", was presented by the Soloist, Rev. Rodney Courson, Jr, with CD Music, and "Look For Me At The Feet Of Jesus", was presented by the Soloist, Kathleen Holton, with CD Music. "Pre-Lude" and "Post-Lude" soft hymns were rendered by the Pianist, Al Wayne Hulsey. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
