Anna Ruth Peterson

Mrs. Anna Ruth Hand Peterson, age 83, of Douglas passed away late Monday evening, September 8, 2014, at her residence, following an extended illness. Mrs. Peterson was born August 9, 1931 to the late George Washington Hand and the late Ada Livenia Music Hand. Mrs. Peterson, a native of Jeff Davis County, had lived in the Douglas area for most of her life. She was a multi-talented individual. She was also known throughout Coffee County for her loving and compassionate nature and as a woman that could be counted on in a pinch. She would always be there for any need that arose. She was a Master Gardner and a life time member of the Town and Country Garden Club, where she had served in various capacities throughout the years. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Lewis, and three brothers, George Vernon Hand, Rev. Cecil Hand and Rev. John Allen Hand. Mrs. Peterson was a member of the West Ward Street Church of God, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher for all ages. She was an active member of the church up until the time she became disabled. Survivors include: Her Husband of 63 years: Omer C. Peterson, Sr. of Douglas, Ga.; 1 Daughter: Valerie Peterson (Joe F.) Brown of Jacksonville, Florida; 1 Son: Omer Carl (Robin) Peterson, Jr. of Tampa, Florida.; Granddaughter: Aleisha Brooke (Mike) McKeeby of Orlando, Florida.; Grandson: Robert Luke Peterson of Tampa, Florida.; Brothers: Otis Hand of Dell City, Oklahoma, and Rev. Raymond Payne Hand of Savannah, Ga.; Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Friday, September 12, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., at the West Ward Street Church of God, with Rev. Britt Peavy and Rev. Raymond Payne Hand officiating. The Interment followed in the Satilla Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers were: Robert Luke Peterson, Jimmy Music, B. J. Hand, Kevin King, Dan Collipe, and Devin Rigdon. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Town and Country Garden Club, the Hope Sunday School Class, and Bethany Hospice. Special Musical Selections, "In My New Home", was presented by the Fishermen, with Johnny Hall, at the Keyboard, and "The Mystery Of His Way", was rendered by the Soloist, Rev. Britt Peavy, with Scott Bryant, at the Keyboard. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
